The Benefits of a Multi-disciplinary Clinic
I knew from a very young age that I wanted a career where I could help people. I remember being in grade 3, when my friends and I were giving back massages at lunch hour. I went home that day and told my mom, “I know what I want to be when I grow up - a masseuse”!
There were definitely other ideas that came and went along the years, but that calling stuck with me and I enrolled in Massage Therapy college right out of high school. A few years after that, I felt the need to learn more, to be able offer more. Cue, Osteopathy.
Once completing the osteopathy program, and transitioning out of massage therapy, again I felt this need for more. I had done my research project around the topic of breathing and the diaphragm, which included many hours of reading about breathwork. I thought, perhaps I will pursue breathwork training. But, a very wise woman said to me “Jasmine, you are already a massage therapist and a manual osteopath, you offer enough. Why don’t you find someone who does breathwork that you can work with” - a genius idea: collaboration.
Now, years later I have a business partner, and we have Instill Therapies, employing 3 manual osteopaths, 2 massage therapists, 1 breathwork facilitator, 1 acupuncturist, and 1 psychotherapist. It is a fulfilling thing, to be able to offer a variety of services, but to not be the person doing all the services. Even more rewarding, is trusting and respecting each of the practitioners here at Instill Therapies.
I see the value, and need for all these therapies. Manual Osteopathy and Massage Therapy to address the physical strains, imbalances, aches, and pains that our bodies have. Acupuncture to stimulate the body’s central nervous system, promoting wellness in all the bodily systems. Counselling Services to allow cognitive growth, learning, and balance. And Breathwork, a guided practice which requires the client’s active participation to change the speed and rate and type of breath, creating change through the autonomic nervous system, affecting hormonal and chemical changes within the body.
Even within these different therapies, our practitioners offer a variety of modalities. Our massage therapist Alexa Daumler, offers Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy (for lymphedema). Our massage therapist Pamela Wolk, offers Rapid Neurofascial Reset (NFR), and Pregnancy Massage. Our acupuncturist Angelina Cai, offers treatments to boost fertility in both men and women. Our Breathwork facilitator Brenna Klaverkamp is trauma-informed, trained in Body-Talk fundamentals, and offers Reiki in sessions. Our psychotherapist Casey Ludwick, is trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialetcical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Manual Osteopath Bonnie Knapp, has success working with clients experiencing headaches, migraines, and post-concussion symptoms. Manual Osteopath Rebecca Voth enjoys working with women’s issues such as fertility, during pregnancy, and post-partum healing and recovery. Manual Osteopath Jasmine Wiens, works with clients experiencing chronic fatigue, chronic pain, and fibromyalgia.
In reality, it is you, the client, your body doing the healing every time. Your body told you - hey, something isn’t right here. You decided to pick up the phone or write the email to book the session. You had the courage to share your story with another human and the faith to put your body/mind in someone else’s hands. But how to choose who, and when, and why? There are different needs for different times in your life, and it brings me joy to see these disciplines together at Instill Therapies. I love that there are passive approaches where a client is relaxed and receives a treatment; and there are active approaches, where the client is required to be aware and participate in their own healing during the session. I believe both approaches are necessary, and valued, and for many people, the real healing begins when all aspects are used together.
You are not just your body. You are not just your mind. You are not just your history. You are not just your emotions. You are a beautiful combination of many elements. The bodies we live in and the thoughts we experience are just vehicles, and these vehicles last longer and run more smoothly with maintenance and care.
If you are looking for some one to help you care for yourself, give us a call and we can help you decide the best approach for you.
If you are an existing client, who has been trying the same therapy for a while now, why not try adding a new approach for a little while, to see the benefits of addressing physical, mental, and emotional progress together.
